Welcome!

I'm glad you're here. My name is Amy Wierks, and I'm the counsellor behind Afterglow Counselling. I offer compassionate, affirming psychotherapy that centers around helping you gently unravel and explore experiences that have shaped your story—including religious trauma, neurodivergence, and the unique challenges that come from navigating life’s complexities.

About me

Beyond my professional training, I bring my lived experiences into my practice. I spent years as an elementary school teacher, which deepened my understanding of the diverse needs of children and families. My own personal journey includes navigating a significant faith transition and healing from religious trauma, giving me compassionate insight into the complexities you might be facing. As someone living with ADHD and raising neurodivergent children, I intimately understand the unique strengths and challenges that come with neurodivergence, informing my empathetic and affirming approach to supporting you and your family.

Why Afterglow?

Afterglow Counselling was born from the belief that after difficult experiences or periods of struggle, there is space for warmth, insight, and growth—an "afterglow" where healing can truly begin. My passion lies in guiding you through this transformative process with empathy, patience, and care.

My Therapeutic Approach

My approach is holistic, deeply person-centered, and informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and somatic practices. Recognizing and embracing neurodivergent experiences, I provide counselling that is affirming, inclusive, and tailored specifically to your individual needs and strengths. My aim is always to create a space where you feel understood, valued, and empowered to navigate your journey authentically.
